Our Tips for Preparing Your Skin for Sun Exposure

In this article

A source of psychological well-being and vitamin D, sunlight plays an important role in our overall health. However, ultraviolet (UV) radiation can also have harmful effects on the skin. That is why preparing your skin for sun exposure before summer is essential to help maintain healthy-looking skin and minimize the effects of UV-induced oxidative stress. Discover the essential steps to support your skin’s natural defenses and enjoy the benefits of sunshine while protecting your skin from sun damage.

1. Keep Your Skin Well Hydrated

After winter, the skin can often feel weakened and dehydrated. Following several months of reduced sun exposure, it may also be more sensitive to the effects of ultraviolet (UV) radiation.

To maintain its protective barrier function, your skin needs adequate hydration. The hydrolipidic film, a natural protective layer covering the skin's surface, helps retain moisture and protect against external aggressors.

To preserve and support this protective barrier, choose skincare products suited to your skin type and apply them to your face and body every morning and evening.

Opt for gentle, well-formulated moisturizers and serums, preferably with ingredients that support the skin barrier. Avoid products containing ingredients that may irritate your skin.

You can also exfoliate gently once or twice a week, depending on your skin's sensitivity, to remove dead skin cells and promote a smoother-looking complexion. Avoid exfoliating irritated or sunburned skin.

Remember to stay well hydrated by drinking water regularly throughout the day. Adequate hydration supports your overall health and helps maintain healthy-looking skin.

2. Choose the Right Sun Protection

Before spending time in the sun, whether in the city or at the beach, use appropriate sunscreen to protect your skin from the harmful effects of ultraviolet (UV) radiation.

From the first sunny days, remember to apply sunscreen with a sun protection factor suited to your skin type (SPF 30 or even SPF 50). All skin tones need protection, from fair skin to darker skin tones. The higher the SPF, the greater the protection against UVB radiation when the sunscreen is applied correctly.

Don't forget your face! Facial skin is regularly exposed to the sun and needs daily protection. Consider using a moisturizing facial sunscreen with SPF 30 or 50 as part of your morning skincare routine.

Remember to reapply sunscreen approximately every two hours when outdoors, as well as after swimming, sweating or towel-drying.

Sunscreen alone is not enough to provide complete protection. Wearing protective clothing, a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses, seeking shade and avoiding prolonged exposure during peak UV hours are equally important.

3. Eat Foods Rich in Beta-Carotene and Vitamin C

A balanced, nutrient-rich diet plays an important role in maintaining healthy skin.

To support your skin during periods of increased sun exposure, include foods rich in vitamin C, beta-carotene and other antioxidants in your daily diet.

  • Vitamin C is an essential antioxidant that helps protect cells against oxidative stress. It also contributes to normal collagen formation, which is important for the normal function of the skin. By supporting collagen production and helping protect cells from oxidative damage, vitamin C plays a valuable role in maintaining healthy-looking skin.

To increase your vitamin C intake, choose foods such as lemons, parsley, Brussels sprouts, kiwis, grapefruit, strawberries, oranges and pineapple.

  • Beta-carotene, also known as provitamin A, is a naturally occurring pigment found in many fruits and vegetables. The body can convert beta-carotene into vitamin A, which contributes to the maintenance of normal skin.

Beta-carotene also has antioxidant properties and can be part of a balanced diet that supports overall skin health.

Choose colorful fruits and vegetables such as raw carrots, melon, spinach, sweet potatoes, broccoli, mangoes, dried apricots and tomatoes.

These foods provide beta-carotene and a variety of antioxidants that help support the body's natural defenses against oxidative stress.

However, neither vitamin C nor beta-carotene replaces sunscreen or other sun-protection measures.

4. Incorporate GliSODin Supplements into Your Beauty Routine

Taking care of your skin starts from within. Maintaining healthy-looking skin involves not only using suitable skincare products but also providing your body with high-quality nutrients.

Food supplements for skin health can complement a balanced diet and skincare routine by providing nutrients that support the body's natural antioxidant defenses. Incorporating GliSODin supplements into your routine a few weeks before summer and throughout the season can be part of a comprehensive approach to skin wellness.

Made in France, GliSODin food supplements offer an innovative approach to beauty from within. GliSODin formulas combine carefully selected ingredients designed to work together as part of your daily beauty routine.

To support your overall well-being, start with GliSODin État Général.

This supplement contains a patented ingredient based on SOD (superoxide dismutase), an antioxidant enzyme involved in the body's natural defense mechanisms against oxidative stress and free radicals.

For a radiant, even-looking complexion, discover GliSODin Éclat Peau.

This supplement has been formulated to complement a beauty routine focused on skin radiance and a more even-looking complexion. It contains lemon balm and vitamin C derived from acerola berries. Vitamin C contributes to the protection of cells from oxidative stress.

Before, during and after the summer season, GliSODin supplements can complement your skincare routine and balanced diet to support your beauty-from-within approach.

Remember: Food supplements do not replace sunscreen and cannot prevent sunburn or UV-induced skin damage. Always use appropriate sun protection when spending time outdoors.
