Reduce the Appearance of Vitiligo

Dietary supplements can help reduce the visibility of depigmented patches and vitiligo when used alongside topical treatments and UV exposure (natural sunlight, UV booths/phototherapy, or UVB lamps).

Improve the skin condition of people with vitiligo using V-SOD

Vitiligo is a skin concern linked to excess oxidative stress. Providing antioxidants may therefore be a good strategy. However, until now, no antioxidant or oral solution based on plant-derived active ingredients had shown positive results. A clinical study presented in 2021 highlighted the effectiveness of gliadin-protected SOD (gp-SOD/GliSODin), combined with narrowband phototherapy sessions, in reducing skin depigmentation.

This skin condition is an autoimmune disorder caused by a malfunction of the immune system. Lymphocytes, white blood cells that are meant to protect the body against infections and external threats, malfunction and mistakenly target melanocytes. As a result, melanin production is no longer activated. When the immune system is disrupted, it can no longer function properly, leading to the appearance of depigmented patches on the skin. Vitiligo can cause depigmentation in a specific area of the skin or more generally across the body. The hands, feet, and face are often the first areas affected.

Between 10% and 35% of people with vitiligo have a family history of the condition. Certain factors can worsen or trigger vitiligo. Physical and psychological stress can contribute to its appearance or make it worse. Emotional shocks or intense stress can also be risk factors.

How Is Vitiligo Treated?

How Is Vitiligo Treated?

It is difficult to predict when vitiligo will appear or how it will develop. To improve the chances of treating white patches, it is important to consult a dermatologist as soon as depigmented patches appear. Treatments currently offered by dermatologists are based on combinations of phototherapy (UVB, PUVA therapy, heliotherapy, natural UV), topical treatments, corticosteroids, topical immunomodulators, and now oral supplementation with GliSODin V-SOD. Treatment success also depends on the areas affected: white patches on the hands and feet are generally more difficult to treat, while vitiligo on the face and body responds better to treatment.

Skin repigmentation is a long process that can require between 6 and 24 months of care. Sun exposure or phototherapy is essential for repigmentation treatment. Although it is not considered a treatment in itself, specialized cosmetic makeup can be a valuable help.

Treatments prescribed to people with vitiligo have three main goals: to stop the loss of melanocytes, to repigment the skin, and to prevent possible recurrence.

Antioxidant supplements containing the patented GliSODin active ingredient, based on gliadin-protected SOD, may be recommended in combination with UV treatments or topical skincare. However, antioxidant dietary supplements alone cannot be considered a treatment for depigmented patches.

GliSODin V-SOD capsules offer a natural solution based on plant extracts, melon SOD, and wheat gliadin. The formula resulted in 20% repigmentation across all patches after 6 months of UVB treatment combined with GliSODin V-SOD supplementation, compared with 9% with UVB treatment alone. V-SOD is a supplement developed for people with skin depigmentation or vitiligo.

V-SOD is a dietary supplement based on the unique, patented GliSODin ingredient, backed by 20 years of clinical research.
